The 60-seater !Khwa ttu restaurant is located in the splendidly restored original farmhouse on top of one of the numerous hills marking the landscape. Adjacent to the restaurant lies a tea garden with a view that extends up and far over the Atlantic Ocean. The tea garden and restaurant are open from 9h00 to 17h00 on Tuesdays to Sundays. The restaurant also opens its doors for special functions in the evenings.

An effective team consisting of a professional Swiss chef and San trainees run the kitchen and restaurant. The menu offers light, hearty and creative dishes, which are spiced up with freshly picked herbs from the !Khwa ttu garden. The team focuses on fresh products, which manifest themselves in permanently available home-made bread and cakes, imaginative deserts and astonishing main courses. At the weekends the team prepares specially arranged three-course menus, which either can be ordered as a whole for only Rand 95 or single courses can be chosen. Meals can be complemented with both a variety of well-flavoured wines from the famous vineyards of the Darling area and a refreshing soft drink creation of the day.

The menu of the !Khwa ttu restaurant, which provides dishes for every taste can be viewed at the website: www.khwattu.org/tourist_restaurant.asp

“This neat little bistro, housed in a lovely old cottage, is right on Darling’s main street. There are tables and chairs in the small garden to take advantage of the passing parade. Inside, tables are laid with crisp, blue checked cloths and there is a cosy bar for a pre-dinner aperitif or for lingering afterwards. Cuisine is country comfort with great soups, steaks, crisp fresh salads, and the occasional nod to boerekos. Small but good wine list.” – EAT OUT Magazine 2007

The Flying Pig

New and not so new!

Darling has become well known for some fabulous products, not only locally, but nation-wide.  The problem is that a number of these products are not readily available to Darlingites in Darling – or at least that is until now.

We are talking cheese, pomegranate products, mushrooms, craft charcuterie, preserves, baked goods, toffees and artisanal coffee of course!  These are all available now at the new kid on the block – The Flying Pig – to be found at the Mantis Mall, 3 Station Road, Darling.

The Flying Pig is more a European style cafe/ deli, serving up a unique coffee blend (roasted right here on the West Coast), interesting cafe style food that really showcases the charcuterie of co-owner, Gil Ferreira, as well as many other products that are hand crafted or selected to ensure authenticity and integrity.

Rather than trying to emulate or take away from other established eateries in Darling, The Flying Pig is adding some new variety to the food offering in Darling, with the main aim to assist Darling in becoming a “foodie” destination, as it rightfully should be.

Pop in and visit Aleks and her team at The Flying Pig Cafe/ Deli for a new food experience in Darling.

Being a unique and trendy hotspot for locals and tourists alike, the Marmalade Cat, is everything its names suggests! The small marmalade-coloured building is easy to spot on Darling’s main road and as one walks past bougainvilleas to enter the yellow, white and blue polka-dotted shop, one is greeted by smiling faces, freshly baked scents and a kaleidoscope of gifts and collectables individually selected by the owner, Sandi Collins.

The Marmalade Cat is the perfect place for a bustling atmosphere, freshly prepared, flavour-filled breakfasts, lunches, morning and afternoon teas. Specialties such as the fluffy bacon and feta omelets for breakfast, or the designer chicken pies will have you desperate to return for more! The Marmalade Cat is also open on Friday nights for their famous pizzas, which include a complementary salad to start and an atmosphere that is sure to have you dancing by the end of the night. The Marmalade Cat is also the perfect place for birthday or business functions, which must be booked in advance.

So with its flower and fountain filled courtyard, good-mood music, delicious food, treasured gifts and a real-life marmalade cat to top it all off, you’re likely to have a spring in your step for the rest of the day.
