The General Manager |
The craft shop offers a broad variety of original items that have been manually produced by San community members from Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. The stunning products range from traditional and contemporary ostrich eggshell jewellery to lino cuts prints, traditional hunting tools, decorated leather bags and music instruments. The shop also offers excellent books on the San’s past and present culture and CDs of San music.
The craft shop manageress will be able to visualise and explain the laborious process of producing ostrich eggshell jewellery through a slide show. She is familiar with most of the San communities in the southern African region and therefore the ideal person to answer your questions about the San’s unique crafts and prints. |

Being a unique and trendy hotspot for locals and tourists alike, the Marmalade Cat, is everything its names suggests! The small marmalade-coloured building is easy to spot on Darling’s main road and as one walks past bougainvilleas to enter the yellow, white and blue polka-dotted shop, one is greeted by smiling faces, freshly baked scents and a kaleidoscope of gifts and collectables individually selected by the owner, Sandi Collins.
The Marmalade Cat is the perfect place for a bustling atmosphere, freshly prepared, flavour-filled breakfasts, lunches, morning and afternoon teas. | Vyge Valley Farm Stall |
top ^ |
| address: |
R27 West Coast Road opposite Jakkalsfontein |
Vyge Valley Farm Stall is situated opposite Jakkalsfontein on the R27 West Coast road. With inspirational drive from the new owners, this hidden jewel has blossomed over the past year into much more than just a farmstall.
The saying goes: "First impressions count" and Vyge Valley definitely makes a lasting impression. It begins with the smell of home baked farm bread that greets you as you step from your car. If you follow your nose you’ll also discover rows of freshly baked milktarts inside the shop which is filled with a variety of homemade jams, sauces and preserves as well as artwork by West Coast artists, to name a just few items.
There is a restaurant with a menu filled with choices for every conceivable taste sensation that you may have in mind, but the farmstyle breakfast which will make you long for your grandma is by far the most popular choice. Children are entertained with a playpark and a farmyard of goats, piglets, rabbits, ducks, chickens and much more.
Another of the new developments is a nursery where you will find a variety of trees, plants, pebbles and pots at giveaway West Coast prices. The farm garage is an attraction on it’s own. Several advertising agencies have already taken breathtaking shots of the garage for use in their advertising campaigns.
A farmstall in the West coast would not be complete without a wineshop. The Vyge Valley wine shop is more along the lines of a wine boutique with shelves full of choices from the region’s best cellars. There are wines from Groote Post, Swartland, Cloof, Darling, Riebeek Cellars and Org de Rac amongst others - all at surprisingly affordable prices.
The farmstall opens at 8h00 in the morning and closes at 18h00 in the evening. Our popular breakfast is available throughout the day, so come anytime. The restaurant is fuilly licensed for those who may be thirsty. Group bookings are more than welcome. Contact Ronel at 0824401927 or e-mail ronel@westcoastestate.co.za |
