Aloe Cottage is the perfect romantic getaway for couples as well as for weekends away with friends or family holidays.
Three en-suite bedrooms provide luxurious accommodation for up to 6 guests. Downstairs comprises two bedrooms (one with a queen-sized bed, one with twin beds) both luxuriously en-suite, with an open plan kitchen, dining and living area with fireplace, leading via French doors to a large, sheltered verandah with built-in braai. Stairs from the dining area lead to the spacious loft with another sitting area. The loft has a queen-sized bed and free-standing Victorian bath, with separate loo and basin. The loft has a small balcony with panoramic views and guests can even star-gaze from bed!
Aloe Cottage is fully equipped with a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, gas stove, electric oven, microwave and a chef’s array of pots, pans and appliances. The cottage includes a fireplace, heater, fans, books, games, a small fenced indigenous garden, and lots more for your relaxation. It also includes a television, DVD player and CD player, just in case… Either bring your own DStv satellite smartcard or use ours for a nominal fee.
The cottage is located in an indigenous renosterveld estate with only 9 other houses in the whole estate. The house has been designed for privacy and relaxation. Restaurants, shops and galleries are a mere 3 minutes’ drive away, but you will probably prefer to unwind by absorbing the peaceful country atmosphere and wonderful views over the neighbouring farmlands. There are beautiful walks and trails nearby. Two mountain bikes are included for your pleasure to explore the quaint village of Darling.
Enjoy your days unwinding on the sheltered verandah to the soundtrack of the local birds, have a braai (wood is provided), watch a show with Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout, see the weaver birds build their nests right outside the window, curl up with a book in the hammock, or just relax on the deep, comfy couches in front of the fireplace with some fine Darling wine. The adjacent fields of the Oude Post farm occasionally offer a glimpse of the beautiful long horns and speckled hides of the Nguni cattle.

Darling 1872 is a converted stable, which according to locals was built by missionaries who settled in the area around 1870. It is also said that the local midwife was based at this property. So with this illustrious background steeped in history, it offers visitors a unique experience.
The cottage has been restored to comfortably accommodate 2 guests sharing, as it has 1 double bed in the bedroom. In addition it has a comfortable double sleeper couch in the living room. A spacious en-suite shower is available complete with fluffy towels. The living room is fitted with a wood burning fireplace, flat screen TV, DVD player and access to Satellite TV. The basic kitchen is fitted with a small gas plate stove, fridge, coffee machine, microwave, kettle, toaster, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.
On street parking is available with direct access from Queen Victoria Street. The cottage has ample garden space and its own deck area for braais (barbecues) or just a crackling fire around which to gather and enjoy a multitude of great local wines or craft beers. A complimentary local wine to welcome you and wood to burn in the fire places awaits you. In addition we offer use of the pool and jacuzzi on request to ease away any stresses.
The cottage is situated in the middle of the town and is within walking distance of local restaurants, the wine shop, the museum and art galleries. Darling has loads to offer aside from the surrounding wine farms, regular shows at Evita se Perron, springtime wildflowers, nature walks and the newly launched bird route. Should you just feel like a nap in the hammock, or lazing with a book under one of the old trees in the garden, Darling 1872 offers a tranquil space for the perfect break away or romantic week-end.

The cottage has a luxury double bedroom with a shower and toilet en-suite. A double sleeper couch in the lounge offers accommodation for another two people.
There is a very well appointed kitchen with all the necessary appliances. A gas/electric stove hob is fitted. The lounge has a fireplace for burning logs in winter. The stoep has a built-in braai. Braai wood and fire wood are available on request.

WELCOME TO DARLING’s LOOK OUT!
On the hillside of Darling, overlooking the village and the vineyard covered hills, you will find our fully renovated (2008) self-catering holiday home. Not even one hour drive from Cape Town International airport, a 50 minutes drive from Cape Town to the north and a small 15 minutes drive from the Atlantic Ocean to the west, you will find Darling.
Lookout, your holiday house, has 4 beds (2 bedrooms), with a new cottage (2006) as annex in the garden for another 2 beds (one double bed). Both houses with bathroom/shower/toilet.
In the main house you will find kitchen (including an oven, dishwasher, refrigerator), a living room with fire place, one bedroom (2 separate beds), a large double bathroom (one side bath; other side wc, shower); on the first floor there is the large bedroom (2 beds, which can easily be made into a double bed) and the lounge with tv and dvd player ,wifi – free of charge, and a spectacular view!
From the living room you may step outside, directly to the swimming pool, as well as the braai (barbecue) on the covered large patio, overlooking the yard with fruit trees, lots of various birds (among them the weavers), with the Ceres mountains in the distance. A laundry machine and a dryer are also available.
Darling’s LOOK OUT offers you many opportunities, on its premises, in the village as well as in the Western Cape area. Come and wander around – you will enjoy it!

Stone Stables is a uniquely decorated self-catering cottage set in a large indigenous garden. Built in 1925, originally stables and a small jail accommodating overflow from the local prison. Remnants of this can still be seen in the horse trough below the kitchen counter and the bars in the windows of both the bathroom and kitchen.
