Jacaranda House

Jacaranda House takes its name from the magnificent tree dominating the front garden of this Cape Victorian style house situated on a large 3,000m plot close to the centre of Darling. Around 100 years old and owned by David and Jane the property has undergone extensive renovations, sympathetically carried out in order to preserve its original character and heritage, whilst providing the modern creature comforts necessary to ensure a comfortable and secure stay.

Our letting facilities are all en-suite and all a little different depending on individual taste and needs.

Adjacent to the swimming pool we have a separate, self contained cottage comprising kitchenette equipped with basic self catering equipment, sitting area, bedroom with choice of either a king size double or twin bed configuration and en-suite with shower.

At the side of the main house is a circular, rondavel which has been transformed into a quirky and compact, yet comfortable bedroom with queen size double bed and en- suite with shower. It also has its own private outside seating area adjacent to the kitchen of the main house.

And within the main house there is a large, comfortable bedroom with king size double bed and choice of en suite with bath, or en suite with shower.

All our rooms have tea & coffee making facilities, a supply of Jane’s legendary cookies and bottled water. And for those who require it, we have an extensive library of paperback fiction which you are welcome to borrow during your stay.

Jane has a professional background in catering, is known locally “as a bit of a cook” and has a pretty extensive repertoire of European and Asian cuisine. She is ready, willing and able to provide dinner, all homemade using ingredients in season, served al fresco or in our homely kitchen, at additional charge. She can also provide packed lunches and catering for small parties and events for guests staying with us.

Darling is surrounded by wineries and has a good 9 hole golf course. Arranging a game of golf or a visit to a winery would be our pleasure and should you wish to bring the odd bottle back with you we will be pleased to loan you the glassware for you to sample it. Alternatively there are enough bottle shops within walking distance to cater for every taste from Champagne to Cider!

Our guests are welcome to use the swimming pool, the covered rear stoep, and the rear courtyard and patio area where you can braai if you wish, or just relax. For your peace of mind we also have off road parking for up to four cars. We can do many things, just ask and if we can we will. But please don’t bring your pets or children under 12 years old as we cannot safely accommodate them.

Our aim is to provide comfortable accommodation, some of the best homemade food available on the West Coast and friendly and efficient service. Do try us out next time you visit Darling!
